Job summary

City of Laredo is seeking a heavy equipment operator to maintain city streets and support paving projects. You will operate street sweepers and related machinery, perform routine maintenance, and assist in training others. A valid Texas CDL and the ability to travel locally are required.

The role includes communicating effectively with staff and supervisors, following safety protocols, and taking part in emergency response as needed. You may drive a City vehicle as part of duties.

Qualifications

• At least two years of heavy equipment operator experience.
• Experience operating street sweeper, patcher, or heavy trucks preferred.
• Valid Texas CDL class A or B license with a clean MVR.
• Local travel may be required and knowledge of city streets helpful.

Responsibilities

• Operates a street sweeper to maintain City streets.
• Performs basic maintenance on equipment and tools (washing, oil changes, greasing).
• May assist in unskilled or semi-skilled labor for paving projects.
• Transport heavy equipment (backhoe, grader, power rollers) on lowboy when needed.
• Assist in training new employees and in assigning, checking, and approving work.
• Maintain good communication between staff, visitors, and other contacts.
• Follow all telephone/radio communications etiquette and safety rules.
• Be available to assist department during emergencies (floods, hurricanes).
• Drive a City vehicle for City business.
