Job summary

City of Laredo seeks a dependable Heavy Equipment Operator to keep city streets clean by operating a street sweeper and other equipment, assist in paving projects, and support emergencies as needed.

You will perform basic maintenance, move heavy loads, transport equipment, and help train junior staff. A valid Texas CDL class A or B and a minimum of two years' experience are required, with willingness to work outside and nights as needed.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a heavy equipment operator.
• Experience operating street sweepers or related heavy equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates a street sweeper to maintain City streets.
• Performs basic maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Assists in digging ditches, paving tasks, and related labor as needed.
• Transports heavy equipment on a lowboy when required.
• Assists in training and supervising laborers and other operators.
• Maintains good communication with staff and visitors.
• Follows radio and phone communication etiquette.
• Assists the department during emergencies such as floods or hurricanes.
