Job summary

City of Gainesville seeks a skilled Equipment Operator to operate, maintain and perform minor repairs on a range of heavy machinery used in the transfer station and street/landfill work. The role includes loading, hauling, and supervising, with CDL required within 30 days.

You will work in all weather, follow safety practices, complete logs and documentation, and respond to emergencies to keep solid waste operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required and relevant operating experience preferred.
• Two years of work experience operating various equipment is expected.
• CDL (Class A or B) or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; solid waste license as required.

Responsibilities

• Load refuse and operate multiple heavy vehicles and equipment as assigned.
• Maintain and wash transfer station and related facilities; ensure daily logs and safety records.
• Deliver, park, and service trucks; report unsafe conditions and perform basic repairs.
• Provide supervision over subordinate staff and assist in planning job assignments.
• Respond to emergencies; work overtime to maintain solid waste operations.
