Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking personnel to support emergency snow removal and related operations. The role involves operating dump trucks, tractors, loaders and graders, performing heavy manual labor, and staying ready for call-in seasonal work.

CDL and DOT medical card are required; safety shoes are mandatory. Shifts may include day or night hours and require readiness for emergencies.

Qualifications

• Heavy manual labor including standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
• Must have CDL and DOT medical card and maintain thereafter.
• Safety shoes required.
• Operates medium and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, front-end loaders, and motor graders.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Assist and support operations for clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals.
• Manual Labor: Perform heavy manual labor such as installing tire chains, plow, and blades, and perform debris removal.
• Perform duties as assigned: Perform duties, tasks, activities and/or projects as assigned.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on equipment used to clear roadways during inclement weather events.
