Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking personnel to perform seasonal, on-call work for storm prep and snow removal operations. Responsibilities include operating dump trucks and loaders, applying materials, performing debris removal, and maintaining equipment.

Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, obtain and maintain a CDL with a DOT medical card, and work 12-hour shifts including nights. Safety shoes are required.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor including standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Must possess CDL and DOT medical card and maintain thereafter.
• Safety shoes required.
• Experience operating medium and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, front-end loaders, and motor graders.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, day or night, during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Assist and support operations for clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals.
• Manual Labor: Install chains, plow blades, and perform debris removal.
• Perform duties, tasks, activities and/or projects as assigned.
• Preventative Maintenance: Service equipment used to clear roadways during winter events.
