Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator for Richland County maintenance. You will operate excavator-mounted tree cutter, boom and slope mowers, and long-reach excavators to clear rights-of-way and assist in ditching, pipeline work, and truck loading.

Responsibilities include maintaining equipment, documenting work, and supporting emergency operations, with potential for extended shifts.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavator mounted tree cutter (track-hoe) for cutting and clearing brush, shrubs and trees from the right-of-way in Richland County.
• Operate boom mowers, slope mowers, and/or batwing mowers in roadside and right-of-way clearing operations using proper mowing techniques.
• Operate long reach excavator in cleaning side line ditches, trenching for pipelines, laying pipe and loading trucks with fill dirt.
• Operate tractor-trailer to transport heavy motorized equipment throughout the district and other counties in the district. Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, to include operating medium or heavy duty equipment.
