Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator for the ROW Clearing Crew to maintain highways. You will operate motor grader, loader, tractor with ditcher, and slope mower, performing grading, drainage work, patching, and curb/building tasks as needed.

You will manage traffic controls in work zones, assist during emergencies and inclement weather, and may be on call after hours.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or approved equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Must obtain Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (e.g., motor grader, front end loader, tractor with ditcher, slope mower) on ROW Clearing Crew.
• Perform drainage, ditch cleaning, shoulder repairs, pothole patching, base repairs, paving, curb and sidewalk work as needed.
• Control traffic in work zones, including flagging for crew and public safety during roadway maintenance.
