Job summary

Umpqua Indian Utility Cooperative seeks an Equipment Operator to support construction and maintenance projects in Douglas County, Oregon. The role is full-time, onsite, and involves operating heavy machinery, transporting materials, and performing routine maintenance across weather conditions.

Responsibilities include driving a range of heavy equipment, maintaining logs, and performing safety inspections while adhering to DOT and company protocols.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, or five years of heavy equipment experience; highway construction preferred.
  • Valid Oregon CDL Class B with three years truck driving experience preferred; no active violations in three years.
  • Ability to obtain CDL tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire.
  • Must hold Federal DOT Medical Card.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
  • Ability to operate equipment under varying weather and field conditions.
  • Understanding of street/road construction methods, materials and tools.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions for heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to perform manual labor with physical exertion; work from specs or blueprints.
  • Capable of following written/oral instructions and handling multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, interpersonal, and customer relations skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment including trucks, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, and trailers.
  • Drive tractor-pumper trailers used in utility sewage operations.
  • Drive tractors/trailers within company policies and in compliance with federal motor carrier safety regulations.
  • Maintain daily driver/equipment log reports.
  • Participate in random drug testing program per DOT requirements.
  • Perform pre-trip equipment safety inspections.
  • Maintain roads and transportation systems for safe roadways.
  • Perform routine maintenance across different seasons.
  • Use equipment to level roads and ensure drainage.
  • Load heavy equipment and transport materials using lowboys or trailers.
  • Carry out minor repairs or adjustments in the field.
  • Follow company safety procedures and report issues to supervisor.
  • Assist in training coworkers in maintenance and repair duties.
  • Perform carpentry, electrical maintenance, pipefitting and plumbing tasks as needed.
  • Operate shop and portable power tools; undertake other duties as assigned.
