Job Description:
This position will assist Markit! in executing various logging projects and will be responsible for maintaining, preparing, and operating tools and equipment such as hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and heavy machinery. The role reports to and works closely with the Project Foreman and Superintendent.
Location:
Projects may be located throughout California and surrounding states.
Travel:
50-75%, potentially up to 100% depending on project needs. Lodging and per diem are provided, along with sufficient rest time.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate logging forestry equipment (e.g., Skidder, Feller Buncher, Log Loader, Harvester, Delimber, Processor, Tracked Skidder, Dozer, Water Truck) appropriately for each project.
- Perform chainsaw felling operations, including directional felling, limbing, and bucking.
- Manage slash operations such as lop-and-scatter, chipping, and hauling.
- Perform road work, excavation, lifting, site clean-up, etc.
- Control erosion through contour felling and LEB creation and installation.
- Complete and submit daily inspections and maintenance on assigned machinery; request repairs as needed.
- Follow and promote safety standards, ensuring proper machinery use and addressing safety issues promptly.
- Participate in weekly site maintenance training with the Foreman.
- Perform equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Prepare for overnight stays at project sites as required.
- Perform general forestry labor when needed.
Requirements:
- 1-3 years of experience operating heavy machinery; logging industry experience preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to perform strenuous outdoor work in rough terrain and various weather conditions.
- Quick learner with leadership qualities, attention to detail, and good decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies.
- Ability to complete projects on time and follow safety procedures.
- Physical ability to bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Proficiency with smartphones/tablets.
Language:
- English required.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Compensation:
$26.00 - $40.00 hourly, based on qualifications and experience.
