Job summary

R.J. Corman Railroad Services LLC seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator in El Paso, TX, to join our field team. You will operate and service equipment used in derailment clearing, handle heavy gear, and comply with DOT rules, all while working outdoors across weather conditions.

This role requires travel and on-call availability. Qualified candidates will hold a CDL-A (manual endorsement preferred) and pass a background/drug screen; physical capacity tests are required.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL-A with no restrictions; manual endorsement and DOT medical card preferred.
• Ability to operate heavy or specialized equipment.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, permits, and driving requirements.
• Willingness to travel and be on-call 24/7.
• Must pass background, drug screen, and physical capacity test.

Description

R. J. Corman Railroad Services is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team in El Paso, TX.

Responsibilities:

• Transport, operate, and service heavy equipment used in clearing railroad derailments.
• Handle heavy steel chains, blocks, steel cables, and other devices.
• Practice safe working habits and ensure proper PPE is being used.
• Safely drive, operate, and maintain CDL-A required vehicles and equipment.
• Perform maintenance, cleaning, and set-up of equipment requiring the use of small and large tools, including cutting torch and welding.
• Perform digging, hammering, and other physical types of work with various tools.
• Follow DOT regulations, ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are followed.
• Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.
• Communicate with team and supervisor throughout the job process.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, Education and Experience:

• Ability to work on call 24/7 and travel frequently to job sites.
• Valid CDL-A with no restrictions, manual endorsement, and DOT medical card highly preferred.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations, permits, and driving requirements.
• Ability to operate heavy or specialized equipment, including Sidebooms, Track Loaders, Excavators, Vac Trucks, and Grapple Trucks.
• Must pass background, drug screen, and physical capacity test.

Physical Requirements:

• Lift 100 lbs. maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
• Handle heavy steel chains, blocks, steel cables, and other devices.
• Perform digging, hammering, and other physical types of work with various tools.
• Comfortable working at heights over 25 feet on railroad cars, on bridges, over water, or in water.
• Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.
• Travel frequently to job sites.
• Must live within 45 minutes of the R. J. Corman shop.
• Comfortable working on railroad cars, bridges, over water, or in water.
• Love working outside!
