Hendry County Government is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator I to operate highway maintenance equipment with a high degree of skill and safety awareness. The role involves loading and unloading at sites, performing routine maintenance, and assisting in repairs as needed.
Qualified candidates will have at least two years of highway construction equipment experience and a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement. Strong English communication and reliability are required.
This is skilled work in the operation of public works equipment. Employees operate equipment with complex controls requiring a relatively high degree of skill and manipulative ability. Employees are required to exercise skill and care in the operation of their assigned equipment and to perform service on the equipment as well as to protect property from damage. Heavy Equipment Operator I is experienced on at least one piece of equipment and on the job training on others. Manual labor is required when not operating equipment.
Operates transports carrying heavy equipment and supplies and is responsible for loading and unloading at designated locations.
Operates various types of equipment the maintenance of highways and roads, such as; farm-type tractors, backhoes, power rollers, slope mowers and other less complicated equipment.
Performs light maintenance and service work in connection with any type of heavy equipment operated and assists in the repair of this equipment. Request major maintenance servicing for equipment when required.
Occasionally operates other types of mechanized equipment and performs manual labor incidental to the operation to which assigned.
Reports to work during declared local state of emergencies.
Assists the Company in any necessary duties to achieve Company goals.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
7:0 am to 5:30 pm.
Pay rate is $22.00 per hour. Salary will be determined upon experience. This is a full-time hourly position that includes County medical benefits and State Retirement.
