Job summary

Maine Drilling & Blasting Inc. in Portland, Maine, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator/Driller Trainee (Construction). The role offers $20–$22/hour, with a travel stipend, and a path to learn drilling and blasting while advancing from within the company.

You will operate backhoes, skid steers, excavators, and loaders; perform daily equipment maintenance; follow safety policies; and potentially travel and work overtime. Training to Driller I is provided.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy construction equipment is helpful.
• Valid Driver's License with own transportation.
• Experience as construction laborer.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• Must pass ATF background screening.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment as instructed by Superintendents, Blasting Supervisor or Drill Operators.
• Maintain safety and work well in varying weather.
• Travel out-of-town and overtime may be required.
• Perform daily maintenance for safe operation of equipment.
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
• Learn drill patterns and execute as established by the Blaster Foreman.
• Inventory accessories and understand maintenance costs.
• Communicate problems and terrain conditions to Blaster/Foreman.
• Complete drill reports, hole sheets, and a signed timecard.
• Demonstrate physical agility.
• Coordinate supplies with Blaster.
• Carry tools and supplies.
• Participate in meetings.
• Complete Driller I training within designated period.
• Work unsupervised with urgency.
• Other duties as assigned.
