Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment on civil construction or similar projects.
• Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and accurately.
• Working knowledge of excavation, grading, compaction, and jobsite safety.
• Ability to understand work instructions, manuals, and safety communications.
• Reliable attendance and ability to report to assigned project sites.
• Ability to work with a crew and communicate changing conditions or hazards promptly.

Responsibilities

• Operate assigned heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, motor graders, rollers, and articulated haul trucks within qualifications and authorization.
• Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, compaction, loading, and material handling per project plans and supervisor directions.
• Read and follow grade stakes, survey markings, and drawings; use GPS or machine-control systems when trained.
• Complete pre-operation inspections and required equipment records; report defects and remove unsafe equipment.
• Monitor ground conditions, slopes, overhead obstructions, underground utilities, and nearby personnel.
• Maintain clear communication with supervisors, spotters, truck drivers, and ground crews.
• Follow utility-locate requirements, excavation plans, equipment limitations, and site-specific safety procedures.
• Perform authorized daily service and keep equipment clean; leave repairs to qualified personnel unless trained and authorized.
• Protect survey controls, existing utilities, structures, and surrounding property.
• Assist with other site duties as assigned and qualified to perform.
