Job summary

New Terrain Grading seeks an Equipment Operator Level Two to run skid steer, mini excavator, dozers, and trucks on diverse sitework projects in the Southeast. You will work with the project team to operate equipment safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and CEPSI requirements.

The role emphasizes hands-on operation, routine maintenance, and adherence to safety practices. A strong work ethic, ability to read drawings, and reliable transportation are essential, with on-the-job training

Qualifications

  • Ability to run heavy equipment (dozer, track hoe, skid steer, and mini excavator).
  • Ability to perform rough grading, fine grading and backfill of various items.
  • OSHA 10 Preferred, but Not Required. We are willing to provide training if needed.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to read and scale construction drawings.
  • Must possess the ability to think critically and problem solve.
  • Ability to work individually or in teams.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as dozers, skid steers, and excavators safely and efficiently.
  • Read civil drawings and scale plans to guide grading and trenching.
  • Assist with setup, problem solving, and GPS-based grading.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment.
  • Mentor and train Level One and skilled labor as needed.
  • Follow safety protocols and participate in job hazard meetings.

Davis Inc., a family-owned organization providing construction, grading, supplemental maintenance, and industrial services to South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. The position Equipment Operator Level Two is an integral part of the New Terrain Grading Team and is responsible for driving and operating equipment such as skid steer, mini excavator, compaction equipment, dozers and excavators, and off-road trucks. This person will work closely with the assigned project team to operate equipment efficiently, professionally, and safely

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Industry
  • Understand risks and safety hazards.
  • Understands general soil conditions, types, and Characteristics.
  • Understands safety manual and OSHA requirements.
  • Can read and fully understand civil drawings, phases of work, specifications, and CEPSI Reports.
  • Fully understand erosion and storm water control and best general practices.
  • Participate in daily job safety hazard meetings and constantly identify and prevent safety hazards.
  • Understands and can Perform daily preventative maintenance checklists.
  • Cleans trash and dirt from equipment daily inside cab and on exterior including tracks.
  • Can read and understand survey grade stakes.
Equipment
  • Can maintain, and safely and efficiently operate with no oversite the following specific equipment at a minimum.
  • Skid steers for fine grading, forks usage for loading and unloading
  • Mini Excavators for erosion control, trenching, and Find Grading
  • Compaction Equipment for meeting specified compaction requirement
  • Offroad Trucks for haul off or moving material on site
  • Dozer: Has ability to rough and fine grade and push mass dirt. Fully understands how to set up, problems solve, and operate GPS System including Base and Rover
  • Excavator: Can Load trucks and excavate to rough and fine Grade. Fully proficient in Trenching for storm water and utilities
  • Competent person Training on Trenching, Rigging, and equipment to be operated
  • Read entire equipment manual on equipment to operate and assessment conducted by supervisor
  • Has the skills to mentor and train level one and skilled labor
