Job summary

The City of Sunrise is seeking a skilled heavy equipment operator to join our Public Works team. You will operate tandem dump trucks, backhoes, rollers, and loaders to maintain streets, drainage systems, and related infrastructure for the City of Sunrise.

Under supervision you’ll perform routine maintenance checks, ensure safety on site, and assist with emergency responses as needed. A Florida Class A CDL and related certifications are required or obtainable within a designated period.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; additional college coursework preferred.
• Experience operating heavy construction/maintenance equipment is essential.
• Ability to read plans, follow safety rules, and perform records/ reports.

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of heavy equipment safely (dump trucks, rollers, backhoes, loaders).
• Transports materials, tools, and equipment to job sites.
• Performs routine maintenance checks and reports repairs.
• Loads and unloads materials and assists with excavation and drainage work.
• Maintains records and prepares simple reports of work performed.
• Be available for emergency calls and maintain safe work zones.
