Summit County's Road and Bridge Department - Heavy Equipment Operator (Seasonal Full-Time)

Summit County's Road and Bridge Department is seeking seasonal full-time Heavy Equipment Operators. The role involves operating various heavy equipment such as trucks, trailers, loaders, steamers, and construction tools, while adhering to safety regulations.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Operating heavy equipment like motor graders, trucks, trailers, loaders, backhoes, dozers, excavators, steamers, and sweepers for tasks such as grading roads, snow plowing, hauling materials, repairing bridges, and installing culverts.
  2. Assessing equipment capabilities to select appropriate machinery for specific tasks.
  3. Providing traffic control, flagging, and signage installation.
  4. Maintaining equipment safety and functionality through routine inspections, minor repairs, and notifying mechanics of major issues.
  5. Participating in seasonal road maintenance activities like asphalt patching, dust suppression, road sweeping, crack sealing, and tree trimming.
  6. Assisting colleagues and responding politely to public inquiries regarding ongoing road and bridge work.
  7. Working overtime or flexible hours as needed.
  8. Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least three years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
