Job summary

Akima Global Logistics in Fort Drum, NY, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Army tactical and heavy equipment at a contractor-managed turn-in site.

You will perform PMCS, diagnose faults in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, and ensure compliance with Army manuals, regulations, and safety standards. Up to 25% travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Education: Highschool diploma or equivalent preferred; equivalent work experience may be substituted.
• 3–5 years of experience as a mechanic on military or heavy equipment.
• Proficiency with Army maintenance standards, PMCS, and GCSS-Army.
• Ability to read Army TMs, schematics, and drawings; strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical inspections on heavy equipment, tactical vehicles, and MHE during the turn-in process.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance per Army TMs and AR 750-1.
• Ensure compliance with Army safety standards and environmental regulations.
• Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and hydraulics.
• Service and maintain MHE such as forklifts, cranes, and loaders.
• Maintain records using DA Form 2404/5988-E and GCSS-Army.
• Coordinate with supply and inspectors during mass turn-in events.
