Job summary

The City of Memphis is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to analyze, repair and maintain heavy machinery, including front end loaders, backhoes, excavators and bulldozers. You will operate, inspect and repair equipment, dismantle and reassemble components, and fabricate parts as needed.

Applicants should have at least three years in major repairs of heavy equipment and hold a valid Class B CDL (or Class A if assigned to certain operations). DOT rules apply for employment.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in major repairs and overhauling of heavy equipment.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and operation manuals to determine parts and locations.
• Must understand written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze malfunctions, repair and maintain heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, excavators, bulldozers.
• Operate, examine, and repair equipment including sweepers, compressors, generators and small engines.
• Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools; inspect parts for wear and damage.
• Repair or replace defective parts such as transmissions and pumps.
• Fabricate parts using machines to cut and shape components to size.
• Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency and reliability.
