Job summary

The City of Freeport Public Works Department is seeking a Mechanic to perform maintenance and repair on City vehicles and heavy equipment, diagnose diesel and gasoline engines, and support parts ordering and work-order systems.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, Texas Driver's License Class B or higher with a clean record, ASE certification or ability to obtain within one year, and at least four years of relevant experience. Willingness to work after hours for emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Texas Driver's License (Class B or higher) with a safe driving record; insurable.
• ASE Certification in heavy equipment and diesel engines preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
• Minimum 4 years of mechanic experience in automotive and heavy equipment repairs.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on City heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Respond to roadside or field repairs.
• Conduct check-ins, make-ready and decommissioning of new vehicles and equipment.
• Order parts and manage supplies as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area.
