Job summary

City of Freeport, Texas seeks a skilled Mechanic in the Public Works Department to maintain and repair heavy equipment and vehicles used in city operations. The role involves diagnosing engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and performing preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities include ordering parts, documenting work orders, and occasional emergency repairs after hours. Requires a Class B Texas driver license and ASE certification or the ability to obtain within one year.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Licenses/ Certifications: Texas Driver's License (Class B or higher with a Safe Driving Record), ASE Certification in heavy equipment and diesel engines or the ability to obtain within one year.
• Experience: minimum of 4 years of job-related mechanic experience in automotive and heavy equipment repairs.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on City heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Responds to roadside or field repairs.
• Monitors and controls supplies and equipment, assist with ordering parts, supplies and tools as necessary.
• Establish and execute preventative maintenance program to ensure that heavy equipment and vehicles are in working condition.
• May be required to respond to emergency maintenance requests after hours, and be available for emergency call out.
