Job summary

Barnard Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a Mechanic - Heavy Equipment in Santa Teresa, NM to service and repair our fleet used on cross-country civil projects.

You will diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems and more, working in field and shop settings; strong emphasis on safety and reliability; requires 5+ years experience and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment.
• Experience with diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical systems.
• Owns service truck and tools applicable to the position (not required).
• Basic understanding of schematics and diagrams.
• Able to inspect heavy equipment and identify defects and performance issues in field and shop.
• Maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and diesel systems on construction equipment.
• Perform visual inspections, diagnostics and preventative maintenance on construction equipment.
• Fabricate parts when needed.
• Follow Barnard safety culture and policies.
• Skilled in welding and cutting.
• Valid driver license and satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Exert heavy physical effort, handling up to 100 pounds.
• Kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb or crawl.
• Rig and hoist material.
• Tolerate heights without fear.
• Maintain balance.
• Enter the cab of equipment 3.5 feet or more off the ground.
• Stand or walk for long periods in extreme weather.
• Work long irregular hours, 50–70 hours per week.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
• Comply with ADA, FMLA and related standards.
