Job summary

McLennan County in Texas is seeking a skilled heavy equipment technician to service county-owned machinery including trucks, loaders, and excavators. You will diagnose, repair and maintain mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and perform routine inspections to ensure optimal operation.

The role requires 3 years of automotive diagnostics and repair experience, plus a valid Class A CDL within six months of hire. Strong tool skills and the ability to read schematics are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years’ experience in automotive diagnostics, repairs and services.
• Valid Class A CDL required within six months of hire.
• Evidence of automotive/ASE Certification a plus.
• Skill in the use of hand tools and mechanized equipment like jacks and hoists.
• Ability to read manuals and schematics (electrical and hydraulic).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair county-owned heavy equipment including trucks, loaders, excavators, and support vehicles.
• Diagnose, service and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Operate precinct vehicles and equipment for road testing as needed.
• Prepare work orders and cost estimates; keep service logs and records; ensure safety and compliance.
