Job summary

McLennan County is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to service and repair county-owned heavy equipment and trucks. You will diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, read schematics, and maintain logs while ensuring safety and compliance.

Requires 3 years of automotive experience, a valid CDL Class A within 6 months of hire, and ASE certification is a plus. Work involves outdoor shop duties with structured hours.

Qualifications

• 3 years’ experience in automotive diagnostics, repairs and services.
• A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) is required within six (6) months of hire
• Evidence of automotive /ASE Certification a plus.
• Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools.
• Skill in the use of mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists.
• Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
• Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions.
• Ability to read manuals and schematics (both electrical and hydraulic).

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and repair on heavy equipment including trucks, loaders, excavators, bulldozers, graders and more.
• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Reads manuals and schematics for troubleshooting.
• Maintains service logs and prepares work orders.
• Ensures safety standards and county policies are followed.
• Keeps work area clean and organized.
• Regular attendance is required.
