Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Carthage, TX seeks Equipment Mechanic I or II to diagnose, repair and maintain heavy construction equipment used on highways and bridges.

The position offers company-sponsored CDL training with zero upfront cost, lodging and per-diem if needed, and a 4/10 schedule (day shift).

Candidates should have 2 years (I) or 4 years (II) of diagnostic and repair experience; must obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days; travel up to 10% and onsite work.

Qualifications

• Experience: 2 years in automotive/medium/heavy truck or construction equipment diagnostics and repair (I).
• Experience: 4 years in automotive/medium/heavy truck or construction equipment diagnostics and repair (II).
• Associate's degree may substitute for 2 years experience.
• CDL required or to be obtained within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Adjust brakes and replace brake system parts including air and anti-locking systems.
• Analyze and interpret computerized diagnostic equipment information.
• Inspect lighting and wiring for proper function of headlights and signals.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Prepare vehicles for use with required safety features and documentation.
