Job summary

Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain state-owned heavy equipment and trucks. You’ll perform preventative maintenance, document repairs, and manage tool inventories in a day shift setting.

The role requires a valid driver’s license, CVI certification by probation end, and several years of heavy equipment experience. A pre-placement drug test and background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a valid Class D Driver’s License at hire, with ability to obtain Class A CDL with no air brake restriction and tanker endorsement by end of probation.
• Valid Commercial Vehicle Inspector (CVI) Certification by end of probation.
• Approximately three years of experience diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and modifying heavy equipment.
• Completion of Apprenticeship or two-year program in heavy equipment, with electronics and testing skills.
• Working knowledge of English for reading, writing, speaking and comprehension.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, maintain and modify state-owned heavy equipment and various trucks.
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections as needed.
• Use required computer programs to record repair information for internal use.
• Maintain tool inventory and ensure tools are in usable condition.
• Performs snow and ice removal as needed.
