Job summary

North Slope Borough—Public Works is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to service and repair light, medium and heavy‑duty machinery. The role requires a valid U.S. driver’s license at hire and a CDL within one year, with compliance to 49 CFR parts 382 and 40.

You will diagnose, repair, and overhaul engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, electrical systems and perform routine maintenance. Travel to North Slope Borough villages, work a flexible schedule including evenings or weekends, and supervise

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Five years of work experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or completion of the NSB Heavy Equipment Trainee Career Ladder.
IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 must be obtained.
CPR, AED and Basic First Aid certifications required.
Ability to obtain RCRA, HAZWOPER, Small Quantity Handler, SPCC training within probation.

Responsibilities

Daily inspections, fueling, fluid level checks, lighting, tires and startup safety inspections of equipment.
Schedule and perform routine preventive maintenance.
Perform minor and major repairs including electrical, drive train, and hydraulic systems.
Troubleshoot drivability problems and diagnose equipment.
Operate diagnostic tools and welding; maintain records and reports.
Travel to borough villages; may work non-traditional hours including evenings or weekends.
