Job summary

Southern Metals Recycling is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot a range of industrial machinery used in scrap and recycling operations. You will service excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other heavy equipment, with emphasis on safety and uptime.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with tractor-trailers and heavy equipment, including diagnostics, welding, and fabrication.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with heavy equipment and tractor-trailers in scrap/recycling environments.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues across hydraulics, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
• Proven fabrication and welding skills with safe use of hand tools and welding equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs on hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems.
• Fabricate parts as needed and use welding tools; operate power tools safely during repairs or upgrades.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic specializing in Scrap and Recycling operations to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot a variety of industrial and heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with tractor-trailers and heavy equipment, including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and industrial machinery.

Duties

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other industrial machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical issues.
• Conduct repairs involving transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, air brakes, alignment, HVAC systems, diesel engines, brake systems, and electrical components.
• Fabricate parts or components as needed using hand tools and welding equipment.
• Operate power tools safely to disassemble or assemble machinery during repairs or upgrades.
• Conduct inspections to identify potential problems before failure occurs to minimize downtime.
• Maintain detailed service records and documentation of repairs performed.
• Assist with equipment troubleshooting and perform heavy lifting tasks safely.
• Ensure all work complies with safety standards and regulations specific to scrap/recycling environments.
