Job Opportunity: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

We have an immediate opening for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at our landfill located at 4107 S Sam Houston Pkwy W, Houston, TX 77053.

Responsibilities:

• Order parts and build relationships with equipment vendors.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment including inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles such as landfill compactors, dozers, excavators, motor graders, haul trucks, tippers, and site trucks.
• Utilize vehicle computer systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns, often at the landfill working face.
• Operate and work on heavy equipment; previous field experience is a plus.
• Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
• Complete paperwork using fleet maintenance software to document repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
• Review and complete repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
• Perform maintenance tasks as required.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
• Communicate effectively regarding repairs or tasks needed.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

• Extensive physical activity including heavy lifting over 50 pounds.
• Work environment may be indoors in a shop or outdoors on the landfill, often in well-lit, ventilated areas. May involve working in awkward positions or handling greasy tools.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• At least 2 years of relevant experience working on heavy equipment such as yellow iron.
• Own personal tools.
