Job summary

Amentum in Anchorage, AK seeks a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to operate, repair, maintain and test heavy construction and flightline support equipment, including bulldozers, scrapers, trucks, loaders, and related systems. The role requires hands-on experience with diesel and hydraulic systems and the ability to read schematics.

You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot using MAXIMO/DPAS, replace components, disassemble engines, and ensure safety and environmental practices.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) to Five (5) years of experience in operating and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • Licensed or trained to operate applicable items of heavy equipment.
  • Must be experienced in the repair of major systems.
  • Prefer motor vehicle air conditioning certification and experience.
  • Specialized knowledge and skills in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance.
  • Skilled in replacing major components and parts on construction equipment.
  • Practical understanding of theory of hydraulics (Pascal Theory), pulley, and gear ratio.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer.
  • Prefer knowledge of US military heavy vehicles and equipment, MHE, OSHA, ANSI, ASME, military regulations standards, and OEM requirements
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust U.S. Government Clearance.
  • NOTE: U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduits MobileMaintenance duties. Replace and repair hydraulic lines, pneumatic equipment, air conditioning systems, wheels/tires, wipers, and light bulbs.
  • Perform heavy equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance.
  • Disassemble and reassemble engines and mechanical units to inspect and diagnose parts using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc.
  • Replace and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins, seals, and bearings.
  • Perform operator care such washing, vacuuming, and cleaning.
  • Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires.
  • Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
