Summary of Primary Functions:

Dobbs Equipment is seeking an experienced Shop Service Technician. Technicians are responsible for the repair, diagnosis, overhaul, and reconditioning maintenance of customer and company heavy equipment and components. Depending on the location and assignment, the technician will be responsible for some, or all, of the functions and duties listed below. These repairs may require working hours beyond the normal schedule for emergency calls or routine service. This job description does not include a complete listing of all duties and functions. Management reserves the right to assign other duties as necessary.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. (Other duties may be assigned)

  1. Follow all safety rules and regulations while maintaining a safe work environment.
  2. Recondition, repair, service, and assemble machines/industrial equipment.
  3. Diagnose problems and determine necessary repairs.
  4. Perform inspections as required.
  5. Report shortages and malfunctions to the Service Manager.
  6. Maintain records of all time, parts, and supplies used.
  7. Handle customer problems objectively and tactfully.
  8. Assist in directing work of helpers or trainees and provide instructions.
  9. Complete disassembly and inspection efficiently to facilitate parts ordering and scheduling.
  10. Perform all service tasks assigned by the Service Manager, Supervisor, or Shop Foreman.
  11. Prepare reports and forms related to job assignments.
  12. Report to Service Manager on any additional work needed for safety and operation.
  13. Participate in training programs to develop skills and knowledge.
  14. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  15. Report unsafe or unserviceable tools, equipment, or vehicles.
  16. Represent the dealership professionally at all times.
  17. Operate trucks and equipment with care and caution.
  18. Care for shop tools, equipment, vehicles, and colleagues' belongings.
  19. Report to work on time and adhere to scheduling.
  20. Work up to 12-hour days, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  21. Operate company vehicles following safety laws, if necessary.
  22. Adhere to safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and clients.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean record.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and operation.
  • Ability to perform repairs using special tools and manuals.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely.

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Associate degree or equivalent, or 2+ years related experience.
  • Stay current with technical updates.
  • Proficient in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good time management and self-motivation.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends/overtime.
  • Ability to interpret safety and operational documents.
  • Ability to write reports and diagnoses.
  • Quick learner, creative thinking skills.
  • Overnight travel less than 5%.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a shop setting with exposure to temperature changes, noise, fumes, dust, and moving parts.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to:

  • Use PPE including respirators, gloves, etc.
  • Use full range of motion and lift loads over 50 lbs.
  • Climb onto equipment (3-4 feet).
  • Perform visual and auditory tasks.
