Position: Field Heavy Duty Repair Technician
  • Location: Fortuna, CA
Job Summary

Perform service activities at job sites and customer locations for customer and rental fleet equipment, focusing on heavy‑duty repair.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a manner that promotes a positive relationship.
  • Travel to and from customer sites to perform maintenance and repairs on equipment in the field.
  • Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
  • Repair, replace, or rebuild engines, transmissions, fuel systems, final drives, steering clutches, cross‑shafts, hydraulic components (pumps, motors, valves), and all related electrical and air systems.
  • Write service reports that accurately document diagnoses and repairs performed.
  • Possess basic computer knowledge and use the required service software.
  • Prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and timecards accurately and timely.
  • Ensure assigned company vehicle maintains a clean professional appearance and is in proper working order.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
  • Follow manufacturer and company service guidelines and procedures to ensure quality work and preserve component failure information for failure analysis.
  • Project a positive professional image with customers.
  • Communicate with customers; keep customers informed of work status.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer service relationships with all contacts.
  • Operate company or personal vehicle as needed.
  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree from a fully accredited college or technical/vocational school in Diesel Technology or a closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of directly related experience in heavy equipment repair, preferably in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Must be a member of Local 3 of the Operating Engineers or be willing to become a member as a condition of employment.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to use required service software.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle.
  • Drug screen and background check required.
