Job summary

Peterson Tractor Co. seeks an experienced Field Technician based in Santa Rosa, CA to perform field service on our fleet equipment at customer sites. You will diagnose, repair, and document service activities, while maintaining safety and professional customer relations.

Required: an associate degree in Diesel Technology or related field, 6+ years of heavy equipment repair, and a valid driver's license; CDL with DOT medical card is a plus. A competitive compensation package accompanies this role.

Job Overview

Peterson Cat needs an experienced Field Technician based at our Santa Rosa, CA location. The role performs service activities at job sites and customer locations for customer and/or sales and rental fleet equipment.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain a safe working environment and observe all safety procedures, laws, policies, and rules.
• Communicate with internal and external customers in a manner that promotes a positive relationship.
• Travel to and from customer sites to perform maintenance and repairs on equipment in the field.
• Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
• Repair, replace, or rebuild engines, transmissions, fuel systems, final drives, steering clutches, cross-shafts, hydraulic components (pumps, motors, valves), and all related components, electrical and air systems.
• Write service reports that accurately document diagnosis and repairs performed.
• Possess basic computer knowledge and ability to use required service software.
• Prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and timecards accurately and timely.
• Ensure company vehicle remains clean, professional, and in proper working order.
• Perform assigned tasks in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
• Follow manufacturer and company service guidelines to ensure quality work and preserve component failure information for accurate analysis.
• Project a positive professional image with customers.
• Keep customers informed on status of work.
• Develop and maintain a strong customer service relationship with all customer contacts.
• Operate company or personal vehicle as needed.
• Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree from a fully accredited college or technical/vocational school in Diesel Technology or a closely related field (preferred). Minimum 6 years of directly related experience in heavy equipment repair, preferably in a heavy industrial environment or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to become CDL certified with DOT Medical Card.

Compensation and Benefits
