Job summary

Knife River Corporation in Hawaii seeks a skilled heavy equipment mechanic to perform overhauls, diagnose malfunctions, and maintain loaders, crushers, quarry trucks, forklifts, graders, and other equipment.

The role requires CDL Class B, DOT medical card, ASE diesel certification, 4+ years experience, welding ability, GED, willingness to join ILWU Local 142, and safe work practices; night shifts possible.

Qualifications

• CDL Class B license, valid DOT medical card, and acceptable driving record.
• ASE diesel mechanic or equivalent certification.
• 4+ years of experience working on heavy equipment.
• Light welding experience.
• GED and/or equivalent combination of experience.
• Must become a member of ILWU Local 142.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• General overhauls of plant equipment such as loaders, crushers, mixers, quarry trucks, forklifts, graders, skid loaders, compressors; rebuilds equipment components and troubleshoots.
• Diagnoses malfunctions and repairs, adjusts, and maintains equipment based on findings.
• May perform duties of other mechanics or welders as needed.
• Uses hand and power tools common to the trade (wrenches, hammers, hoists, drills, grinders, feeler gauges, indicators, etc.).
• Drives pickup trucks and road tests equipment as necessary in accordance with DOT regulations; requires CDL B License.
• Services equipment, plant compressors, pumps, and meters (cleans, oils, and lubes).
• Prepares reports, requisitions, and other documentation per procedures.
• Assists other tradesmen with repairs and overseers helpers as needed.
• Performs night shift work and related duties as required.

• May perform the duties of other mechanics or welder.
• Uses hand and power tools common to their trade such as wrenches, hammers, hoists, drills, grinders, feeler gauges, indicators, component testing equipment, etc.
• Drives pick-up trucks and road tests equipment as necessary in accordance with DOT regulations. Requires a CDL B License.
• Services (cleans, oils, and lubes) equipment, plant compressor, pumps and meters.
• Follows established procedures in preparing necessary reports, requisitions, etc.
• Assists other tradesmen with repairs
• Oversee the work of trades helpers and assist other mechanics and tradesmen where assistance may be needed
• Performs night shift work and other related duties as required.
• Must have a working knowledge in repair, parts and operation of above equipment.
• Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
