Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation in Elko is recruiting a Highway Equipment Mechanic 1 to diagnose, maintain, modify, and repair a wide range of equipment, including light through heavy highway maintenance machines. Incumbents keep the district fleet in good repair for routine operations and emergencies.

Completion of a NV automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship or Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of an automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship or NV Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of highway maintenance equipment, including heavy vehicles.
• Knowledge of brake, steering, hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, maintain, modify and repair NDOT equipment to keep fleet in good repair.
• Repair and overhaul brakes, steering, suspensions, and drive lines; service transmissions.
• Repair electrical systems, engines, hydraulics; fabricate and install parts as needed.
• Perform test drives, inspect components, and order parts as required.
