Job summary

UC Santa Cruz is seeking a skilled automotive/heavy equipment technician to perform maintenance and repairs on a range of vehicles and equipment. The role includes diagnostics, welding, and fabrication, with emphasis on safety and compliance with emission regulations.

The position requires journeyman-level experience, ability to operate tools and diagnostic equipment, and capability to work independently or with others. Travel up to 50% between campus sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Journeyman-level experience in automotive/heavy vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Experience operating and maintaining tools and special tools used in this work.
• Ability to perform welding and fabrication operations.
• Knowledge of diagnostic equipment used in automotive repair.
• Ability to inspect vehicles and equipment for needed maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Performs or assists in major repair and maintenance of automotive and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including major system overhauls.
• Maintains and repairs emission control systems to ensure conformity with emission regulations.
• Operates vehicles and equipment during maintenance and repair.
• Reads and interprets basic blueprints and executes metal fabrication projects as directed.
• Drives the vehicles that are being repaired.
