UC Santa Cruz is seeking a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician to maintain and repair the university's fleet of vehicles and equipment. Under supervision, you will handle major repairs, emission controls, welding, fabrication, and diagnostic work on diverse powertrains and machinery on a busy campus.

This career appointment requires journeyman-level skills, the ability to work independently and with others, and willingness to work varying shifts, including overtime.

Qualifications

• Journeyman-level experience in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Ability to operate and maintain diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to weld and fabricate.
• Ability to inspect and repair vehicles and equipment.
• Safe operation of University-owned vehicles.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Flexibility to handle changing workloads and overtime.

Responsabilités

• Performs or assists other technicians in major repair and maintenance of automotive and heavy‑duty vehicles and equipment.
• Maintains and repairs emission control systems to ensure conformity to all local, state, and federal emission regulations.
• Performs maintenance and repair to vehicles and equipment operating on gasoline, diesel, propane, CNG, and electric power.
• Reads and interprets basic blueprints and executes metal fabrication projects as directed.
• Drives the vehicles that are being repaired.
