Job summary

UC Davis Health is seeking a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to support, maintain, repair and upkeep the university fleet. This on-site role in Sacramento requires a California Class B license, 1+ year as a heavy-duty mechanic, and the ability to work with hybrid/electric systems.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and adherence to SOPs, with a 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM schedule, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• Required to hold a valid California Class B driver's license, have a driving record in accordance with local policies, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
• High School Diploma or equivalent experience/training.
• At least one year of experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic with preventative maintenance, diagnostics and repair of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle systems, components, and repair techniques.
• Skilled in performing preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and component replacement.
• Ability to operate diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments safely.
• Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, brake, steering, suspension, transmission, heating/air conditioning, and engine-related systems.
• Reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, repair procedures, and manufacturer specifications.
• Ability to safely work with up to 600 volt DC currents for electric carts and hybrids.
• Knowledge of safety regulations, hazardous materials handling, and safe shop procedures.
• Documenting repairs, labor hours, parts usage, and maintenance records with accuracy.
• Environmental protection requirements from Federal, State and Local agencies.
• Coordinate with Supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and customers regarding repair schedules.
• Work effectively independently and as a team member.
• Coordinate work activities and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
• Skills to work with Microsoft Office and fleet management software.
• Safely perform physically demanding work and work in confined spaces.
• Supply and maintain personal basic hand tools.
