Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 years of tech school and 2 years of heavy-duty truck repair experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and diagnostics to determine truck condition.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty trucks.
  • Document service and repairs accurately.

Heavy Duty Diesel Technician - All Levels Accepted

GTG Peterbilt - Quincy is a family-owned full-service Peterbilt truck dealership serving eastern Iowa since 1973. We are committed to providing the highest quality products and services to the trucking industry, delivered by dedicated professionals to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.

We have an immediate opening for a Heavy Duty Diesel Technician at our Quincy, IL location. The successful candidate will perform service and repairs on heavy-duty trucks across all makes and models.

Requirements:
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostics to determine truck condition.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with specifications, making adjustments as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Use warranty and evaluate service and parts options to maintain cost efficiency.
  • Accurately document service and repairs in vehicle records.
  • Complete engine overhauls and other repairs identified during diagnostics.
  • Read schematics for electrical and air systems.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Take ownership of tasks and explore value-added opportunities.
  • Follow DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Perform other shop duties as assigned.
Skills:
  • Proficiency with power tools for truck and chassis repairs.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to perform all aspects of heavy-duty diesel repairs at higher experience levels.
  • Professionalism and safety consciousness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • OEM certifications are a plus.
  • 2 years of tech school and 2 years of heavy-duty truck repair experience, or 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work involves lifting, pushing, pulling, and working around trucks and trailers. Must be able to walk, reach, bend, climb, push, twist, squat, kneel, and stand for extended periods. Work environment includes indoor and outdoor settings with high noise levels. PPE provided.
