Job summary

Mesa Public Schools is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic Journeyman to diagnose and repair district vehicles, ensuring safe operating condition and readiness for service. The role emphasizes engine work, fault diagnosis, and stringent safety standards.

Work is full-time, 40 hours weekly, with a base hourly rate of $24.97 and benefits including retirement, health and life insurance, plus annual performance pay. Pre-employment drug testing may apply.

Qualifications

• Five years of mechanical experience with at least three years diesel experience.
• Journeyman mechanic status or equivalent.
• Valid Arizona Driver’s License with clean record.
• Successful completion of an accredited apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• Ability to obtain a Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements.
• Valid or ability to obtain ADEQ vehicle emissions license.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose engine problems from tune-ups to major overhauls.
• Inspect and diagnose district vehicles (buses, cars, vans, trucks).
• Perform emergency repairs and light towing as needed.
• Check buses for safety conformance and compliance.
• Estimate time and cost of repairs and maintain shop paperwork.
