Qualifications

About the RoleStep into a hands-on role where metal meets precision. As a Heavy Casting Abrasive Finishing Technician, you’ll set up and run large, high‑speed metal-removal machinery to fabricate parts, preparing them for downstream operations with meticulous surface finishing.A Day in the LifeYou gear up, review prints and layouts, and plan your approach. You choose the right grinding wheel or belt for the material, geometry, finish, and stock removal required. With hand grinders, power tools, high‑RPM wheels, and belt sanders, you grind, sand, clean, and polish large castings and hard‑faced products. You load and secure workpieces—often with an overhead crane—then adjust, start, and stop equipment as you move through each finishing step. You inspect surfaces for porosity and cracks, mark repair areas and identifying information, verify dimensions against specifications, and document results on the required forms. Throughout, you keep your area clean, your equipment in top condition, and safety front and center.
