This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Specialist 4 within the Air Guard Maintenance Division and is a fully qualified HVAC Technician responsible for performing journey-level maintenance work required to accomplish all phases of building maintenance and construction work.This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation. - Performs preventative maintenance of HVAC related duties.
- Performs inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems.
- Operates, inspects, maintains, repairs, removes and/or installs heating/cooling system components including compressors, belts, bearing, motors, fans, heat exchangers, burners, filters, and controls.
Responsible to repair heat pumps and air conditioning systems. - Performs inspections, maintenance and repair of Hot Water Boiler systems.
Perform emergency, routine and safety work orders assigned related to HVAC.
Responsible to order materials as required related to HVAC installation and maintenance requirements.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Journey level standing as refrigeration mechanic or steamfitter as attested by:
a. Completion of recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades. OR
b. Full journey-level status in Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. OR
c. Five years of applicable experience in the refrigeration or steamfitter trades or a combination of the two. Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic will substitute, year for year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years. OR
d. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSCertifications:- 06A Electrical License.
- Universal CFC Recovery Certification
Experience:- Skilled, journey-level experience in HVAC maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment
Knowledge of:- Standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in mechanic trades and HVAC work.
- HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural, and mechanical systems/components.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building trades.
- Basic safety, building, environmental, and construction codes and regulations.
Skills and Abilities to:- Read plans and blueprints for buildings, infrastructure systems, equipment, etc.
- Consult with supervisors and make recommendations about repairs/remodeling work needed.
- Operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, scanner, etc.).
Compensation:Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation:Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and obtain/maintain a Department of Defense DoD Common Access Card (CAC). Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.Union Shop Provision:This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA). Driver's License:
- Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
- Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.
Military Facility:Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation. Camp Murray and Fairchild AFB utilize the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry to the installation. Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the
Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01). This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver’s License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.
Work Hours:A choice between Tuesday through Friday (4/10 schedule): Monday through Thursday (4/10 schedule): or Monday through Friday (5/8 schedule). The actual hours will start no earlier than 6:00 am and end no later than 6:00 pm and will include core business hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.Telework:This position is not eligible for telework.Emergency Assignment:Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.Travel:Occasional statewide travel may be required up to 5% to include overnight stays. ** HOW TO APPLY **Applications for this recruitment will be accepted electronically via www.careers.wa.gov.
