Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Health Technician (HIS) to support the Audiology Department, performing both administrative and clinical tasks under supervision of a GS-12 audiologist or higher. Responsibilities include hearing aid troubleshooting, patient education, and documentation in EMR.

Candidates must meet licensure/certification requirements, including NBC-HIS, and may be appointed at entry level if non-board certified with supervision until certification is obtained.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen and proficient in English.
• Must hold active HIS license in a U.S. state/territory.
• NBC-HIS board certification required or eligible for temporary appointment for non-boarded applicants.
• Non-board certified individuals may be appointed at entry level and must obtain certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient care support and assist audiology procedures.
• Troubleshoot and repair hearing aids and hearing assistive technology.
• Document all encounters in electronic medical records accurately.
• Prepare equipment and environment for audiology procedures and triage calls.
