Job summary

Island Hospital is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to handle clerical tasks in the Nursing Department and support patient admissions, communications, and staff coordination. The HUC will manage data entry, phone calls, and chart preparation to ensure smooth patient flow and quality care.

The role requires CNA and BLS certifications, strong prioritization, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current CNA Certification required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Able to prioritize and re-prioritize as priorities change.
• Able to perform multiple tasks in a high-volume environment.
• Maintain professional appearance and calm demeanor under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Registration/Data Entry: obtain demographics and fax to admissions.
• Answer phones and route calls to appropriate staff.
• Enter orders and tests in the computer system and discharge patients.
• Discharge patients and manage charting processes.
• Maintain supply inventory and bi-weekly restocking.
• Schedule outpatient tests and imaging and coordinate appointments.
• Assist nursing staff with patient care activities and comfort.
• Participate in fire safety and infection control reviews.
