Job summary

Joint Commission and CAHME offer a one-year fellowship for a CAHME-accredited program graduate. The role is based onsite at the Joint Commission’s Washington, DC office, with a hybrid work model and a $65,000 internship stipend plus benefits.

The fellow will engage with executive leadership, analyze policy initiatives, and contribute to accreditation and performance improvement efforts while developing communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Must be a student in a CAHME Accredited program.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
• Second year graduate in health administration or related field, graduating by June 2027 before fellowship start.

Responsibilities

• Partner with executives to gain immersive experience in healthcare quality, accreditation, policy, and leadership.
• Analyze legislative and regulatory issues to support advocacy and understand how public policy affects quality and safety.
• Develop understanding of healthcare delivery, leadership, and performance improvement in real systems.
• Support refinement of accreditation standards to promote safe, high-quality patient care.
• Strengthen written and oral communication skills through presentations and stakeholder engagement.
• Explore global healthcare systems and international quality initiatives with partners.
• Examine environmental sustainability in healthcare operations and resilience while maintaining high care standards.
• Gain understanding of Joint Commission’s mission and accreditation processes and their role in quality.
• Observe accreditation surveys and certification reviews to learn best practices.
• Support outreach and program development for CAHME/Joint Commission Fellowship.
