Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a detail-focused Financial Clearance Specialist to verify insurance eligibility for outpatient visits and determine medical necessity and authorization requirements before services are rendered.

You will coordinate with departments, escalate issues, and maintain accurate documentation while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and contractual regulations. Excellent communication and Microsoft Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS coding and ICD-9/10.
• Advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access).
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal departments and patients.

Responsibilities

• Verifies insurance eligibility for visits using online tools or payer contact.
• Determines medical necessity and authorization requirements; obtains authorization when needed.
• Escalates issues timely and coordinates with revenue cycle, leadership and clinical stakeholders.
• Completes work queues and reports daily to meet productivity and quality standards.
• Counsels patients and refers to financial counselors for complex issues.
