Job summary

Eskenazi Health is seeking a Financial Counselor to assist customers with securing verifications from multiple agencies and programs. You will guide patients through payer options, explain benefits, and document eligibility decisions in our systems.

The role requires strong knowledge of CMS/FSSA programs, excellent communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital setting. Indiana Navigators Certification within 45 days of hire is expected.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred or 2 years of experience in financial counseling, insurance verification, credit, collection and billing, including pre-admissions and admission registration.
• High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Accept daily assigned customer referrals in management designated systems to determine customers to be screened/interviewed
• Assist walk-in customers as they present
• Explain available payer programs and benefits to customers, including Healthy Indiana Plan, Medicaid programs, Health Insurance Marketplace, COBRA, or hospital’s charity program
• Interview/screen customers for all potential payer programs
• Assist customer with information necessary for securing verifications from various agencies
• Complete timely submission of documentation and application in management designated system(s)
• Document and update application status in management designated system(s)
• Maintain confidentiality of patient health information per HIPAA
• Contact patients by phone, correspondence, or home visit to secure necessary documentation
• Monitor progress of applications to ensure completion and timelines
• Attend interviews with State/County payer program representatives
• Update management designated system(s) with eligibility determinations
• Mentor peers and provide training as needed
• Meet productivity and quality requirements
