Job summary

MU Health Care is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to perform routine cleaning in patient care areas, restrooms, and public spaces with a strong emphasis on infection prevention, safety, and customer service. The role includes handling soiled linen and medical waste in a HIPAA-compliant environment at MOI-1100 Virginia Ave, Columbia, MO.

The position is on-site with evening shift differential and a Monday–Friday schedule, every other weekend.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Additional license/certification requirements may be determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine cleaning tasks in patient rooms, procedure areas, restrooms, public areas, clinics, and offices according to established protocols.
• Interacts professionally with patients, visitors, staff, and the public, using approved scripting and maintaining a service-oriented approach.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
• Follows all infection control guidelines, including the use of PPE and isolation room procedures.
• Handles soiled linen, regular waste, and medical waste in accordance with department safety standards.
• Delivers and stocks clean linen, monitors par levels, and enters data using handheld or desktop computers.
• Operates equipment such as vacuums and carts safely and reports any maintenance or safety issues to the supervisor.
• Follows safety protocols when working with wet floors, ladders, and cleaning equipment to prevent accidents.
• Maintains equipment in clean, safe working condition and ensures the work area is compliant with inspection standards.
• May assist Floor Care Technicians or support team development tasks as assigned.
• May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
