Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator to coordinate emergency preparedness, response, recovery, mitigation, and business continuity across facilities.

Reporting to the Director of Emergency Management, this role leads planning, drills, and training; supports HICS activations; and partners with public health and first responders to enhance regional readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience in a related field.
• One year of healthcare operations, emergency management, public safety, or related experience.
• Experience coordinating projects or programs with multiple stakeholders.
• Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to participate in emergency response and incident management assignments.
• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office and collaboration tools.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between UI Health Care locations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities across assigned facilities.
• Maintain emergency operations plans, procedures, and related program documentation.
• Support Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) implementation, training, and activations.
• Participate in emergency response activities and incident command assignments as needed.
• Develop, coordinate, and evaluate preparedness drills and exercises.
• Facilitate after-action reviews and track corrective actions and improvement plans.
• Provide emergency preparedness education for staff and leadership.
• Represent UI Health Care in healthcare coalitions and community preparedness initiatives.
• Conduct HVAs and readiness assessments.
• Partner with Safety, Security, Infection Prevention, and operational leaders to identify and mitigate risks.
• Assist with preparedness grants, reporting requirements, and program deliverables.
• Maintain inventories of emergency response resources and equipment.
• Serve as liaison with healthcare partners, public health agencies, and first responders.
• Support emergency communications and coordination during incidents and planned events.
