Job summary

Capital District Physicians Health Plan Inc (CDPHP) seeks motivated interns for a 10-week paid Summer College Internship Program in Buffalo, NY. Interns gain hands-on experience on meaningful projects across tracks like Analytics, IT, Finance, Marketing, and more, with mentorship from managers and development workshops to bridge school to corporate life.

Opportunities include cross-functional collaboration, presentations at project end, and exposure to cost analysis and value-based care.

Qualifications

• Desired Majors/Degree Programs Include: Actuarial, Statistics, Math, Economics or similar program(s)
• Preferred (but not required) experience with: Excel, coding (SAS, SQL, R, Python), Communicating across various teams.
• High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment (enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program).
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interact with technical and non-technical audiences and interface with staff at all levels of the company.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail changing environment and deliver high-quality work product.
• Ability to work well in a team establishing good working relationships with peers.
• Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving and prioritization skills.
• Proactive approach to work, displaying creativity and flexibility in completing assigned tasks.
• Commitment to continuous improvement of skills and team functioning.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as on intra- and inter- departmental teams as needed.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using a desktop computer in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

• The intern will evaluate opportunities to reduce healthcare costs and improve the value of care through medical claims analysis.
• Working with medical economics, clinical, and data analytics teams, the intern will investigate a cost savings initiative, assess the potential opportunity using internal and external data, and develop estimates of short-term and long-term financial impact under various assumptions.
• Works with a mentor and supports key strategic projects.
• Completes work assignments based on business needs, departmental priorities, and individual qualifications.
• Performs a mix of technical and/or non-technical tasks that will cover a broad range of business-related projects.
• Creates and delivers presentations at completion of internship.
• Maintains confidentiality and protection of member privacy in accordance with company policies.
• Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
• Performs other functions as assigned by management.
