Job summary

Cantex Continuing Care Network is seeking a Cook / Assistant Chef to ensure meals are prepared, cooked, portioned, and served per approved menus in a timely, sanitary manner. You will support daily food production, therapeutic diet compliance, and food safety in a long-term care setting while promoting resident nutritional quality and safety.

The role emphasizes adherence to dietary standards, sanitation, and infection prevention practices, with opportunities to mentor Nutrition Services staff

Qualifications

• Current state Food Manager Certificate.
• Experience in quality food preparation in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, portion control and safe handling.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and supervises the preparation of meals per scheduled menus.
• Ensures adherence to dietary, nutrition service, and healthcare standards.
• Maintains sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
• Labels, dates, and stores food items and leftovers promptly.
• Monitors temperature logs for food, refrigerators, and equipment.
• Supports training and supervision of Nutrition Services staff when assigned.
